Supreme Court officials ruled last week that after a sex offender has completed their sentence, the offender can still possibly be held indefinitely if they are proven to still be a sexual threat to society. Of course they would be subject to a professional evaluation by a licensed therapist before making this decision.
“The federal government, as custodian of its prisoners, has the constitutional power to act in order to protect nearby (and other) communities from the danger such prisoners may pose,” Justice Stephen Breyer wrote for the 7-2 majority.
